When Malenia was born, she was harbored scarlet rot from within, as a result of being born from one god (Remembrance of the Rot Goddess). Malenia was worshipped as a goddess by the followers of rot, such as Maleigh Marais (Antspur Rapier).
The Scarlet Rot is the result of a battle between the greatest warriors among the demigod children: Radahn and Malenia. Their clash destroyed Caelid by unleashing the disease, but it also destroyed both Malenia and Radahn.
